The Deer Park Wedding of Emily & Andy
On 2nd November I was back at one of my favourite venues Deer Park Country House for the wedding of a truly dynamic duo Emily and Andy. Rarely have I met such a sporty, driven and ambitious couple. They were quite a tour de force. Supremely organised and a joy to work with.
Unlike my earlier visit to Deer Park the sun was shining and it really could have been a beautiful spring day. It just go to show you never can tell and people should not be put off by the idea of a winter wedding especially at a venue such as Deer Park which caters so beautifully for every eventuality.
Surrounded by their family and friends it was a very happy day and thanks to the powers of 21st century technology Andy’s very elderly grandmother who couldn’t make the long journey from Northern Ireland was listening and watching the entire ceremony on Facetime.
The bride’s mother read one of my favourite readings ‘Your Walled Garden’
“Your marriage should have within it a secret and protected space, open to you alone. Imagine it be a walled garden, entered by a door to which only you hold a key. Within this garden you will cease to be a mother, father, employee, homemaker or any other of the roles which you fulfil in daily life. Here you can be yourselves, two people who love each other. Here you can concentrate on one another’s needs. So take each other’s hands and go forth to your garden. The time you spend together is not wasted but invested. Invested in your future and nurture your love.”
This reading was so appropriate for this incredibly energetic pair who admit themselves they rarely sit still, driving each other on and always hungry for more. When I asked them what they liked doing best together they told me about many shared interests but also indicatively nothing more than just being together with a log fire and a ‘good Netflix’ – in other words their walled garden.
