CELEBRANT WEDDINGS

What is the difference between a wedding celebrant and a registrar?

A registrar conducts the legal marriage within a prescribed format, and you will be allocated the registrar officiating on the day. With a wedding celebrant, you choose the person who will conduct your ceremony and work with them beforehand to create something written specifically for you, with far more freedom over the words, structure, setting and people involved.

Is a celebrant wedding ceremony legally binding in the UK?

In England and Wales, an independent celebrant ceremony is not legally binding. Most couples complete the legal formalities separately at a register office, leaving the wedding day free for the ceremony they actually want.

Is a celebrant wedding a real wedding?

Absolutely. The legal paperwork and the wedding ceremony don't have to be the same event. Your celebrant ceremony is where you make your promises and share the occasion with the people who matter to you.

Where can we hold a celebrant wedding ceremony?

Anywhere. A country house, garden, marquee at home, woodland, beach or somewhere that simply means something to you. A celebrant wedding gives you considerably more freedom over where your ceremony takes place.

YOUR CEREMONY

Can we write our own wedding vows?

Yes. You can write them yourselves, or I can help you find the words. Vows don't need to be lengthy or theatrical. The best ones simply sound like the people saying them.

Can we include readings, poems and music in our wedding ceremony?

Of course. Readings, poetry, live music, songs and hymns can all have a place.

Can we include religious, cultural or family traditions?

Yes. A celebrant ceremony doesn't have to be non-religious. We can include prayers, hymns, blessings and cultural or family traditions keeping what has meaning to you and leaving out what doesn't.

How personal can a celebrant wedding ceremony be?

Entirely personal, without needing to be unconventional. Your ceremony can feel reassuringly traditional, distinctly modern or somewhere between the two. The important thing is that everything in it belongs to you.

WORKING TOGETHER

How much does a wedding celebrant cost?

Every wedding is different. My fees reflect the ceremony, location and travel involved. Following an initial conversation, I’ll provide a clear fee for your wedding.

Will we meet before the wedding ceremony?

Yes. Getting to know you properly matters. We'll have an in-depth meeting to talk about your story, your people, the wedding and the atmosphere you want to create before I begin writing.

Can we have a wedding rehearsal?

Yes, when one would be useful. For a larger wedding party, unusual ceremony layout or several people taking part, a rehearsal can be invaluable. For others, a clear plan on the day is quite enough.

How far in advance should we book our wedding celebrant?

As soon as you know you would like me there. I take on a limited number of weddings, and popular dates can book well ahead. That said, it's always worth asking about a date, even at shorter notice.

UK & DESTINATION WEDDINGS

Do you travel throughout the UK?

Yes. I'm based in Devon and conduct weddings throughout the UK, including London, country houses and celebrations at private homes.

Can you be our celebrant for a destination wedding?

Yes. I conduct destination weddings as well as weddings throughout the UK. We work together in exactly the same way beforehand.
