So, funny story… we were guests at a church wedd

So, funny story… we were guests at a church wedding the other day, and someone leaned over and asked if I’d mind giving her daughter a bit of advice. Why? Because she’d been asked to officiate her friend’s wedding. And of course, without missing a beat, I heard myself saying: “Yes, of course!”
Truth is, over the years I’ve given LOADS of people tips on how to write and lead a ceremony. And you know what? Instead of seeing it as competition, I’ve decided to see it as an opportunity. ✨
So, here’s the deal if you’ve been asked to lead a ceremony (and are currently staring at a blank page wondering what on earth to say), I can help. With warmth, words and plenty of know-how but I’m sure you’ll understand there may be a small fee.

THE OFFICIANT’S ENERGY ✨
Last September was all about work, work, work. This year has been quite the opposite! A month of holidays, friends, dancing and weddings. And for the weddings I wasn’t always in my usual role. For once, Nick and I have been guests. We’ve attended four weddings this year two this month, and all of them were church weddings. 🩵
Whilst attending these weddings as a guest I have been listening to the services, watching how the vicars officiated, and soaking up the atmosphere. I also couldn’t help but reflect on my own role as a celebrant. Because while the surroundings of each wedding were very similar (the flowers, the guests, the format), what stood out most was the energy of the person leading the ceremony.
I’m often told that it’s not just the words, but my energy that makes my ceremonies stand out. And having spent this month as a guest, I can see so clearly why that matters. Because the officiant’s energy is what transformed a familiar setting into something truly memorable and unique.

“We decided to have a celebrant for our wedding ceremony as we wanted it to be more personal and also to involve our guests. We arranged for a registrar at the registry office on the day before so that we could have the formal wedding ceremony which is a legal requirement. This had been advised by Fan. Otherwise we would have had the registrar and celebrant one after the other at the same venue!
We first met Fan online and decided to go ahead with her. She sent a questionnaire to get some information about us, especially as our relationship started nearly 34 years before and we had already been together for all that time. Then we met face to face at a cafe and talked through our lives together in more detail along with what we wanted to be included in the ceremony.
After this Fan produced a first draft which we continued to tweak between us until everybody was happy with it. This included the vows which were personal to us, our story and the parts of the ceremony that involved the guests.
Fan is warm and professional. She is a good listener, and interested in us: keen to create a ceremony that reflected our own personalities and story. We were very pleased with the way that the ceremony went and our guests were touched and impressed also.” ✨

Why wouldn’t you bring your piano into the great

Why wouldn’t you bring your piano into the great outdoors for your ceremony? I led a ceremony some years ago now in some ancient woodland. 🎶
The family were incredibly musical. The best man played the Saxaphone as the bride emerged from the trees. It was soooo romantic!
During the ceremony we all sang ‘Jerusalem’ accompanied by a member of the family playing a piano which had been transported out into the woods.
What an atmosphere we all created! 🎵
